Corrections
Found something wrong on this site — a cap percentage, a notice period, a lead-safe detail? Report it and it gets checked against the published source.
How to report an error
Email hello@njrentcontrol.com with:
- The town (or the page URL)
- What's wrong, specifically — the figure or statement you think is incorrect
- A source — a link to the current ordinance, code section, or other document showing the correct figure
What happens next
The reported figure is checked against the source you provide and, independently, against the currently published ordinance or statute. If the correction holds up, the page is updated, its "last verified" date is refreshed, and a note is added below for anything that was a meaningful factual correction (not a typo or formatting fix).
Recent corrections
Dated 2026-09-23.
- New Brunswick — the cap band was corrected from the DCA survey's 2.5%–5.5% figure to the ordinance's current 1%–4% band, reflecting the amendment effective January 1, 2024. See New Brunswick.
- Passaic — the cap was corrected from the DCA survey's 6% figure to the ordinance's current flat 3% (plus a separate itemized property-tax pass-through fee), reflecting the 2025 rewrite of the rent stabilization chapter. See Passaic.
- Belleville — removed a separate 4%-per-lease-renewal sub-cap that the prior ordinance text and the DCA survey both describe; the February 2026 amendment (Ord. No. 04-26) ties lease-renewal increases directly to the single 5%-per-12-months figure instead. See Belleville.
- Lead-safe certification (statewide) — corrected the certificate validity period from two years to three years, per P.L.2024, c.74 (approved September 12, 2024); the DCA's own program guide, FAQ page, and worked timeline example still say two years. See the lead-safe certification hub.
